Hello friends! I think in order to keep up with the web-world of sewing, and to thank the women and men who are avid bloggers and have given me so so so many ways to practice sewing, I've started this new blog to show them how I've utilized their blogs. And to help others who are getting into sewing find other people who have brilliant ideas and tutorials that can help guide them on their own sewing journey! I started sewing, thanks to my fabulous mother-in-law, in May of 2010 (which, as of today, has only been 8 months). I've already come a long way! And I'm excited to see where this sewing journey may lead me. I love sewing with a passion that I have only extended a few other "hobbies" in my lifetime. Singing (which, let's admit, almost everyone can do), photography (again, not rocket science), and maybe dog owning (which now that I have real, human, babies, the dog babies aren't quite as endearing as they once were....). Sewing has opened up a world I've always been trekking for!! Something that came to me as naturally as talking (you know, in the beginning you need to practice, but once you feel comfortable you can't shut up). I love how you can take a big sheet of printed cloth that looks boring and maybe even drab, and turn it into a fabulous purse or dress. I haven't taken on many adult projects yet. Literally, for adults...! I mostly make things for my little girls or purses. But I know I'll expand my horizons eventually!
So the first project I'll show you is a tea party ruffle skirt from Christine at From An Igloo. (I don't know how to "tag" other bloggers yet, but will be sure to figure it out ASAP. NEVERMIND. I figured it out!) She did hers in denim, but I wanted to make one for a one year old's first birthday! So I got some owl fabric from Hobby Lobby and some coordinating stripes and some hot pink tulle and went to town! Christine's calculations on how to change the size worked pretty well for me! I also googled 12 month old size chart to see what the average lengths and waists are. http://www.onehautetutushoppe.com/pages/Sizing.htm (Teags is the same age, but she's a CHUNK so I can't trust her measurements!!) I added tulle to the bottom and might have changed some of the lengths a little, but Christine's directions were followed pretty precisely other than that! I think it turned out pretty cute. I'm going to take pictures of Teagan in this skirt, although she's not the proper owner!! (That baby girl lives about 4 hours away so I can't take pictures of her....) I hope you enjoy!
