Alice in Wonderland Black Apple Doll

My princess, and diva extrodinaire, will be turning 3 SOON! Valentine's Day to be precise. We will be going to see Tangled at the real movie theatre!! I'm excited and I think she'll absolutely love it. Along with the princess dress I've already made her (she somehow has received all of her presents early this year????), I made her an Alice doll. We love the new Disney live action version so I knew she'd have all sorts of plans and scenarios for her new Alice doll! I really, REALLY, suck at getting the links to publish. I'll try again anyway. First, here's the picture of Alice!

There she is. I used the Black Apple Doll tutorial on Martha Stewart's website. I winged the apron....it could have turned out better, but for a doll it will work! My girls love these dolls. Teagan also got one for her first birthday. And although it is no Bitty Baby from American Girl, they still play with them!

I'll post more pictures of Zoey's princess party creations as I make them! Later.

My baby is ONE!

Well. It happened. My sweet, precious, little baby girl just turned one. SO...I made things for her. (Probably too much....I tend to want to make far more than my stress level is capable of handling...) She got a dress that was supposed to have bloomers, but I under estimated the amount of fabric I was going to need and then messed up the fabric. So no bloomers. And she got a cute dress. And a blanket. And a dolly. (ALL handmade...) And she was supposed to have a pillowcase with her name on it, but I'm only as far as T E A G so far. I'll finish it one of these days. The dress was a Kwik Sew pattern and the shirt was a tutorial from Prudent Baby. The blanket I made her was from a pattern book called .... well, I can't remember. But I don't have a picture of the finished blanket yet, anyway! The doll was a black apple doll found on Martha Stewart's webpage. So overall that's my handmade First Birthday Party stuff!

I have vowed to not check my facebook page for 2 weeks. I'm almost there. This Saturday I can check it again. I wanted to go ahead and update here. I'm going to add a picture or two of the ridiculous snowfall we experienced here in KC. What a crazy 2 weeks to not be able to talk to my interweb friends! Oh well.

My first post....

Hello friends! I think in order to keep up with the web-world of sewing, and to thank the women and men who are avid bloggers and have given me so so so many ways to practice sewing, I've started this new blog to show them how I've utilized their blogs. And to help others who are getting into sewing find other people who have brilliant ideas and tutorials that can help guide them on their own sewing journey! I started sewing, thanks to my fabulous mother-in-law, in May of 2010 (which, as of today, has only been 8 months). I've already come a long way! And I'm excited to see where this sewing journey may lead me. I love sewing with a passion that I have only extended a few other "hobbies" in my lifetime. Singing (which, let's admit, almost everyone can do), photography (again, not rocket science), and maybe dog owning (which now that I have real, human, babies, the dog babies aren't quite as endearing as they once were....). Sewing has opened up a world I've always been trekking for!! Something that came to me as naturally as talking (you know, in the beginning you need to practice, but once you feel comfortable you can't shut up). I love how you can take a big sheet of printed cloth that looks boring and maybe even drab, and turn it into a fabulous purse or dress. I haven't taken on many adult projects yet. Literally, for adults...! I mostly make things for my little girls or purses. But I know I'll expand my horizons eventually!

So the first project I'll show you is a
tea party ruffle skirt from Christine at From An Igloo. (I don't know how to "tag" other bloggers yet, but will be sure to figure it out ASAP. NEVERMIND. I figured it out!) She did hers in denim, but I wanted to make one for a one year old's first birthday! So I got some owl fabric from Hobby Lobby and some coordinating stripes and some hot pink tulle and went to town! Christine's calculations on how to change the size worked pretty well for me! I also googled 12 month old size chart to see what the average lengths and waists are. http://www.onehautetutushoppe.com/pages/Sizing.htm (Teags is the same age, but she's a CHUNK so I can't trust her measurements!!) I added tulle to the bottom and might have changed some of the lengths a little, but Christine's directions were followed pretty precisely other than that! I think it turned out pretty cute. I'm going to take pictures of Teagan in this skirt, although she's not the proper owner!! (That baby girl lives about 4 hours away so I can't take pictures of her....) I hope you enjoy!
